STATE REQUIREMENTS:
|
Candidates must be at least 18 years of age |
|
Candidates must be a United States citizen, a non-citizen national or a qualified alien under federal law |
|
Candidates must have a social security number |
|
Candidates must have completed the prescribed 75-classroom hour North Carolina Broker Prelicense Course or any other education or licensing program from another state that is acceptable to the North Carolina Real Estate Commission (NCREC) |
|
Candidates must pass the real estate license examination (exceptions: those eligible for licensure by reciprocity and some license reinstatement applicants) |
|
Candidates must satisfy the NCREC they possess the requisite character to be entitled to licensure |
STEPS OF LICENSING:
|
Successfully complete 75-classroom hour NC Broker Prelicense Course or otherwise satisfy the license qualification requirements (Click here for information on enrolling in prelicensing classes) |
|
Submit license application, fee and required documentation with the NCREC |
|
Application is reviewed by NCREC to determine applicant’s eligibility for the license examination
|
| | If application is complete and applicant is qualified, the NCREC sends a notice of eligibility within 4-5 working days of application receipt. Applicant then contacts testing service to pay examination fee and schedule taking the examination by computer |
| | If the applicant is not qualified or if the application is incomplete, the application Is cancelled and returned to the applicant along with the application fee |

If applicant fails the license examination, another examination my be rescheduled and taken again |
|
If applicant passes the license examination: |
| | Upon finding no issues relating to applicant’s character, the license is issued and received in the mail within 7 days of testing date |
| | Upon finding a character issue, the application is reviewed by Commission staff and may be referred to the Commission for further consideration as to whether the applicant has the good character necessary for licensure. This process may become quite lengthy |
STARTING A CAREER:
|
Exams are graded at the site immediately upon completion. A provisional broker may engage in Real Estate services after passing the exam and activating their license through a broker. |
|
Complete the educational process by taking Post-Licensing Classes to become a full Broker. A provisional broker must be affliated with a company to practise real estate during this time. |
|
